General information

The state educational institution of higher professional education “The Kovrov State Technological Academy named after V.A.Degtyarev” (KSTA) founded in 1952 is situated in the city of Kovrov of the Vladimir region, four hours journey from Moscow.

The KSTA is a higher school of regional importance. Its rector is Polyansky Dmitry Yurievich, Candidate of Technology, associate professor, professor.

The KSTA employs 18 Doctors of Sciences; 87 Candidates of Sciences, associate professors; 11 lecturers are members of different branch Academies of Sciences, 3 lecturers are honoured workers of science and technology of the Russian Federation, 4 lecturers are winners of the State Prize, 4 are honoured inventors of the RF, more than 20 employees have been awarded the breastplates of the RF Ministry of education, 76 employees have been awarded diplomas of the RF Ministry of education.

Over 3700 students are trained at the Academy, 400 specialists are turned out annually. Since 1993 the Academy has been training foreign citizens. At present 45 citizens from 10 countries of Asia, Africa and the former USSR republics are students of the Academy. 26 foreign citizens have graduated from the Academy and received higher school diplomas, two of them (those from India and Cameroon) have got the Academy diplomas with honours. A citizen of India Kumar Niranjan has taken a post-graduate course and defended a thesis on the subject associated with the department of physics and laser technologies. 8 foreign citizens have finished the KSTA college and got diplomas of secondary education.

233 applicants from other countries have studied at the preparatory department of the Academy. The KSTA has a state license for training specialists with higher education in 15 specialities, 9 of them are available to foreign citizens; and there is a license for providing secondary professional education in 5 specialities.

The levels and periods of learning:

  • certified specialist – 5 years,
  • bachelor – 4 years,
  • master – 6 years.

After successful graduation from the Academy students willing to raise their qualification and having an aptitude for scientific research may continue their education by taking a post-graduate course.

The length of the post-graduate study is 3 years.

Prior to the post-graduate course the Academy can offer a year-long study leave (sabbatical) in the chosen scientific speciality. Graduates of technological higher schools may use the opportunity to get a second higher education in the field of economics by correspondence. The education process at the Academy is carried out in Russian.

Foreign citizens who do not speak Russian can enter the preparatory department to learn the Russian language and revise the basic school sciences according to the chosen technical speciality (mathematics, chemistry, physics, drawing, computer science). The period of learning is 9 months. Graduates of the preparatory department continue their studies in the KSTA and in other higher schools of Russia, such as the Vladimir State University, the Ivanovo State University of Chemical Technologies, the Ivanovo State Academy of Construction and Architecture, the Russian Friendship University, the St.Petersburg University of Electrical Engineering, the Tula State University. The Academy also comprises an Energy-Mechanical College, which trains specialists of secondary education. The cost of training and accommodation in the hostel per one year is:

  • 35000 roubles at the preparatory department,
  • 40000 roubles at the 1st - 5th years of the Academy,
  • 3700 roubles for scientific study leave (sabbatical),
  • 40000 roubles at the post-graduate course,
  • 20000 roubles at the college,
  • 17000 for a second higher education (in the field of economics)

It is possible to provide training only in mastering the Russian language for foreign citizens interested in it. The period of studies and the payment may be agreed upon individually. Foreign citizens are accommodated in single or double rooms and provided with everything they feel necessary.

The KSTA owns

  • a gymnasium;
  • a gym with training facilities;
  • a shooting site for biathlon;
  • a recreation camp on the bank of the Klyazma river
  • two libraries and reading halls.

Not far from the hostel there is a park, a stadium, a swimming pool, a post-office, a bank, a cinema, a trade center. The administration of the KSTA invites for studying at the Academy foreign citizens who are interested in getting a higher or secondary professional education, in raising their scientific status or in studying the Russian language.
